Preview: Eindhoven Psych Lab 2016
Op 10 en 11 juni vindt voor de derde keer Eindhoven Psych Lab plaats in de Effenaar. Het unieke festival waaide over uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Het kreeg een eigen identiteit in Eindhoven. Dit jaar mogen we bands als Goat, Temples en Föllakzoid verwelkomen in de Lichtstad. We blikken vast even vooruit naar het festival.
Psych
Wat is Psych eigenlijk? Ik vroeg het een tijdje terug aan Robert Schaeffer en Bob Dieleman van de Effenaar, toen we spraken over hun feestje. “Het is muziek waar je in op kunt gaan, die avontuurlijk is en je mee neemt op reis. Het is ook een scene of misschien zelfs een soort Zeitgeist. Psych is meer een mindset, vandaar dat je alle kanten op kunt denken muzikaal,” (Robert Schaeffer).
Vandaar dat je uiteenlopende acts treft op het festival. Van het bezwerende wereld muziekgezelschap Goat tot de kosmische klanken van krautrockers Föllakzoid. In het verleden trof je al tal van verrassende acts op het festival, maar dit jaar is ook veelbelovend.
Lab
Er zijn tegenwoordig meer dan genoeg psych festivals in de wereld. Met bands als Tame Impala die de HMH uitverkopen is het ondergrondse wereldje wat Robert en Bob in het Verenigd Koninkrijg troffen echt de kleine clubs ontstegen. In Eindhoven heet het geen fest, maar lab. “Eindhoven heeft een duidelijke link me het experiment. Van die eerste geluidsexperimenten van Dick Raaijmakers (Kid Baltan) 60 jaar geleden in het Natlab tot nu, het is een stad die vooruitstrevend is. De keuze voor de term ‘Lab’ is dan ook vanzelfsprekend. Het is meer dan alleen bandjes kijken, je wordt meegenomen een speciale wereld in dankzij een uitgebreid randprogramma.” (Bob Dieleman)
Ook dat zie je terug in het programma, diverse acts gaan samen het experiment aan. Zo gaat Radar Men From The Moon de studio in met Gnod om samen uiteindelijk een show te doen, maar ook het Cairo Liberation Front met High Wolf en Black Valleys met OWOW. Het belooft bijzondere resultaten op te leveren.
Komen dus!
De Effenaar doet net iets meer zijn best voor je tijdens Eindhoven Psych Lab. Van de aankleding, ontvangst en podia tot het eten, alles is tip top. Eindhoven Psych Lab is een festival wat internationaal publiek trekt, dus dat moet je zelf ook écht een keer mee maken. Er zijn nog kaarten!
