De reviews in de Nederlandse muziekpers zijn vrijwel unaniem: ‘Foghorn’ is een juweeltje en Wolfendale heeft een indrukwekkende verzameling aan liedjes op het debuut weten te zetten. De innemende poppy indie tracks zijn op plaat gelaagd, gevoelig en stylistisch. Dat maakt het erg interessant om vanavond te kijken en luisteren hoe deze muziek live uitpakt.
Wolfendale speelt 2 release shows in het kader van het debuut ‘Foghorn’. Uiteraard is de Effenaar dan een logische keuze voor de Eindhovense band. Een thuiswedstrijd met als logisch gevolg een zeer goed gevulde kleine zaal. De start is enigszins ongelukkig als de techniek niet wil meewerken om een filmpje te tonen, maar de uitgebreide intro op de Xylofoon aangevuld met wat ambient klanken maakt de weg vrij voor de band om het podium op te stappen.
De band opent net als op het album met ‘Vulture’ en ‘Cracking Jolts’, waarbij de zaal op het laatstgenoemde nummer al lekker staat mee te swingen. Bij de eerste songs valt meteen op dat het geluid bijzonder goed en warm is. Na een wat gespannen begin staat de band er bij ‘Fixer’ en het mooie ‘Island’ heel wat relaxter bij. Het “kleine” ‘Red Sparrow’ wordt akoestisch en breekbaar gebracht.
Alles valt dan ook prachtig in elkaar en het optreden is erg sfeervol. De meerstemmige vocale werken live nog beter dan op plaat en het instrumentarium is perfect op elkaar afgesteld. De debuutplaat komt helemaal aan bod met onder andere erg fraaie uitvoeringen van ‘Dr. Henry Kazoo’ en de titeltrack ‘Foghorn’.
In een live setting klinkt de band duidelijk warmer en voller in vergelijking met het album. De toevoeging van 2 extra muzikanten tijdens deze show draagt daar zeker aan bij. Op de uitvoeringen valt dan ook niets af te dingen. Het is een fraaie set van een sympatieke band die in een mooie setting goed tot uitting komt. Ook live is deze band meer dan klaar voor de toekomst en dat maakt nieuwsgierig waar het verhaal Wolfendale gaat eindigen.
